How long will my case take?

Case Logistics

One of the most common questions we hear is, “How long will my case take?” The truth is that it depends on many things!

Some cases can be resolved in a matter of months, particularly if liability is clear and your medical treatment is complete. But catastrophic injury cases often take longer. This is because your medical care and long-term prognosis must be understood before we can accurately assess the value of your case to make sure you are fairly compensated. Complex cases require expert testimony, depositions, and, sometimes, a trial. In addition, insurance companies may delay or deny claims in the hope you’ll accept less than you deserve.

You should expect that at least several months will go by after your initial consultation before we have enough information to bring a claim or file a lawsuit, and if your case is complex and requires expert support, likely longer. In Maryland and D.C., the typical time between the filing of a complex injury lawsuit and a trial is about 18 months, although sometimes cases can be resolved in a shorter time period if the parties are able to reach a settlement.

Our priority is not speed for its own sake, but in putting together the strongest case so that we can secure the maximum compensation for you. While no lawyer can give an exact timeline upfront, we promise to keep you informed at every step, pursue your case aggressively, and fight to resolve it as efficiently as possible, without compromising our position or its value.
